You can thank the rest of the MMO industry that there is no other space sandbox quite like EVE for the fact my main remains skill flipping.
Yes - that's a dilemma many of us face - if there was another decent pvp-heavy mmo with a single shard universe, time-based skill progression and player run market, many would just have left for greener pastures after incarna (ok - perpetuum comes to mind, but i didn't quite like it for some reason I can't exactly nail down.).
Quote:One rather big heads up: Although CCP soundwave's ideas and comments about FiS sound level headed and solid, his comments about what he would like to see on the carebear side disturb me greatly. Those have the carebear side of me thinking full blown un-sub. For now it sounds like you've left any industry re-vamp in grayscale's hands. That's fine, just be aware that the carebear side of EVE is more of a silent majority, more likely to simply un-sub without any visible protest. Pls check with Dr. E regarding high sec vs 0.0 population numbers as to the potential impact of this.
I'm not that sure about that one - for the time being, I have parked both my remaining characters in highsec as I'm not really actively playing due to lack of new/changed content and I wouldn't join an alliance that would accept anyone displaying my current activity levels. Once or twice a week, I run an l4 or two whilst watching TV and checking if some old mates are online to have a little chat - yet I would happily accept CCP completely nerfing highsec into the ground. As for the hardcore carebears - why would they care? There's only one 30 bill pimp-BS one can fly at any given time, so they don't need the money anyway - I respect their way to play the game, but I doubt they do what they do for the isk, but only to relax after work...
Quote:Side comment about the NeX: One reason I think your strategy is flawed is that the current NeX store strategy is probably going to convince newbies to stay away from your game. One way MMO players evaluate store items is by analyzing them vs-a-vis their in game earning potential. "If I wanted to grind isk to buy plex to buy an item, how long would it take me?". Ask yourself this question from the point of view of a 2 week old newbie who's learning the game and is still in his first few frigates. Just about all other aspects of the game are reachable within a month or two of starting (more like the start of those paths, but still). I have sent newbies to go play in 0.0 within a few weeks of starting the game (they really do need the right mindset for it though). Rubbing their faces in a game aspect that they feel they won't be able to access for a year or more is probably counter productive (all that advertising for the NeX).
My main gripe about the pricing strategy would be that it's not coherent. I could easily outfit every single alt with a monocle, if I'd see a point in it, but having a monocle cost as much as 2 unfitted carriers (capital ships with an entire crew after all) is just immersion breaking. I'm not a roleplayer, but although eve is highly unrealistic, it used to be coherent in itself - with incarna, that policy was seemingly completely abandoned - be it out of whack pricing strategy (imagine a watch at the price of two Nimitz-class aircraft carriers - yeah - right) or undergoing a major transition in your whole metabolism each time you want to refit a module on your ship.
I also stayed with eve because of said coherence, which I liked - if I had started today, I'm not sure if I had stuck with it after realizing above problems.
And no - not everything can be explained with nanobots and jovians. |
